What is therapy

Counselling, is often referred to as a talking therapy, which allows people to talk about their feelings in a non-judgemental, confidential place where they feel safe to share their innermost thoughts, behaviours and emotions.

People may feel they have no-one they can talk to, even those with supportive family and friends may have difficulty talking to them about personal, family or relationship concerns and find it easier to talk to a professionally trained counsellor.

There may often be a clear focus of what the problem is, eg bereavement or relationship issues or there may be less specific or easily identified causes contributing to feelings of anxiety, depression or helplessness.

At Held in Mind Therapies you will be respected and accepted for who you are. Central to the counselling experience is the relationship between client and counsellor which involves a commitment on both sides.

The counselling journey

Counselling begins with an initial meeting, sometimes known as an assessment, which allows us to consider whether counselling might be helpful to you . There is no commitment at this stage. Should you wish to continue we will agree a set time and day to meet each week.

We provide both short-term and open-ended counselling depending on each individual's needs. The initial meeting will last up to one and half hours, thereafter, each session will last 50 minutes and we will review the length of counselling together regularly.

What Benefits can be Expected?

Counselling aims to allow you to be more at ease with yourself and your relationships and provide you with a deeper level of self-awareness and understanding.

Self-knowledge and acceptance help to bring relief and possibilities for change. This helps you cultivate the feeling that life can be enjoyable and fulfilling rather than endured.
